How much does a website cost?

Will I be able to update my website?

Yes - All Websites developed by BT provide access to the site owner to update and manage all of the website content.

Different website packages have different levels of access however all packages are simple and easy to use.

We also include an online training session to show you how to access and update your website.

How long will it take to build my website?

How much input is needed from me?

We appreciate every business is very busy, but we would always recommend that you take some time during the design consultation to tell us about your business, competitors, websites you like (or don't), information on your main products or services and key selling points.

We also ask you to comment on the design, so we can amend it if necessary. If time is very limited, consider taking our copywriting service to minimise any time commitment at your end.

How do I get my website found in the search engines?

All of our websites are search engine friendly, actual search engine results are outside the control of any website provider and can take 3-6 months to achieve optimal rankings without assistance. Our Website Manager service provides monthly sessions on increasing visitors to your website.

Do I need to write my own content?

Only if you want to - we have a copywriter available and will write starter content for you as part of your package. If you feel you need a little bit more we have full copywriting service available. Just ask your sales representative for more information.

Can I see who has visited my website?

BT includes Google Analytics with all website packages - Google Analytics provides all sorts of useful information from how many visitors your site has had to specifically what pages they have viewed.

You can also set goals for your website and watch as your website grows. Find out more

Can I take payments on my website?

You will need eCommerce functionality in order to take payments on your website.

Can I use my own images?

Yes, simply email these directly to your designer as .jpg, .gif or .png

Who will own my website?

Your website will be hosted by BT but you will fully own your website. When agreeing to BT Marketing Solutions building your website you have agreed to taking BT's hosting for a minimum of 12 months. After this you can move your website and domain to a new host if required.

Please note Amazon or eShop websites are hosted platforms therefore to change your host you will need to migrate your content to a new platform.

I have seen offers for free build your own website, why should I pay BT?

There are many companies who offer cheap or free website design tools. The benefit of having your website developed by BT minimal effort and time along with the level of design and production expertise which your web designer provides.

Where can I find training guides?

All BT Website projects include full training on how to maintain your website. Your dedicated designer shall provide you with access to our training guides and sessions unique to your project.

Can I update my website myself?

Yes - All Websites developed by BT provide access to the site owner to update and manage all of the website content. Different website packages have different levels of access however all packages are simple and easy to use.

We shall also include an online training session to show you how to access and update your website.

How many pages can I have on my website?

I want to change the design can I do this myself?

Regardless of which development project you take with us, you will own your websites and have full access to all areas of your site.

To change the design and layout of the website you will require some basic coding knowledge, if you are comfortable with this there is no reason you cannot update your websites template yourself.

Does BT Marketing Solutions work with companies outside of the UK?

Unfortunately at this time BT Marketing Solutions only works with UK registered companies.

What package do I need?

The hosting package which you require depends on the web project you have purchased with BT Marketing Solutions. Details are available on our product comparison chart.

How do I purchase or upgrade a hosting package?

BT Marketing Solutions are always happy to help either give us a call on 0800 917 0692 or arrange for one of our experts to call you to discuss the best option for you.

How can I cancel or downgrade my hosting package?

BT Customer Options Team are available on 0800 800 152 to discuss any cancellations or downgrades you may need to discuss.

How do I activate my hosting package?

Hosting activation can be done within the 'Manage Services' section of your http://myoffice.bt.com account, more details can be found here.

Do I have FTP access?

You have access to your web hosting FTP with both BT's Basic and Professional hosting packages. More details can be found here.

How do I manage and create databases?

With BT's Professional hosting package you have access to create and manage 2 MySQL Databases. BT's Basic hosting package does not include a MySQL Database.

What is a domain name?

A domain, such as yourcompany.co.uk, is an easily recognisable way to identify your business on the internet. A domain is often registered by a company to reflect their trading name or service type.

So the domain 'yourcompany.co.uk' would have the website name:

and also email addresses in the format:

Your domain name is a unique identity that people will remember amongst the millions of others on the internet. They will be able to access your website and send you emails, and as long as you continue to renew your domain, your email and web address need never change again even if you change Internet Service Provider.

How do I transfer a domain into BT?

BT is happy to transfer the following domain extensions into a BT account. (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .co.uk, .org.uk, .tv)

How do I transfer a domain out of BT?

To transfer your domain away from BT you must make a request via the BT DNS team.

Can I use an externally Hosted domain with BT services?

It is possible to use BT's hosting and mail services with a domain registered with a third party host. Full details of how to configure your domain to use BT's services can be found here.

Does BT offer Domain Shields?

BT Domain Shield is a product that enables you to mask your Whois information in order to add an additional layer of protection from fraudulent activity like spamming and phishing.

What is Smart Hosting?

Smart Hosting allows customers to use their existing domain name with a new BT website.

How do I use Smart Hosting?

If you want your current domain name to work with your BT website, you MUST contact the original domain registrar company to ‘repoint’ the domain name to the new BT website and AWAY from your old website. This allows users to find your ‘new’ website with the ‘old’ address.

My account has been suspended who should I talk to?
