Shirley Munro Florist is thriving – with the help of BT.

Business is blooming for Aberdeen-based Shirley Munro Florist and, with the help of a website from BT, they’re looking to grow further in 2013.

Opened in Aberdeen’s Beechgrove Terrace (a street synonymous with flowers thanks to the famous BBC garden!) in October 2011, the shop has quickly established itself as a popular destination for wedding bouquets, decorative floral arrangements, special occasions and more.

As well as a great BT website to promote the business, owner Shirley Munro and her assistant florist Sarah Thomson use social media to keep in touch with customers as well as publish pictures of their exciting, colourful bouquets and arrangements.

Shirley said: “I’ve been working with flowers since I was a teenager and it was always an ambition of mine to open a boutique-style shop here in Aberdeen.

“I started off working for Pullbrook and Gould, the renowned London florists. I also spent some time working for my father Hamish in his shoe shop and it’s given me a great background to work for myself in retail.”

This colourful life has given Shirley a wonderful eye for trends and styles and made sure her flowers are in demand for corporate events, celebrations and special occasions.

With the help of assistant Sarah Thomson, Shirley has realised the dream of owning the shop in Aberdeen – which was created very much with the customer in mind.

Shirley said: “Sarah and I had a vision for the type of store we wanted to open and I’m glad to say it has been realised. Shirley Munro Florist is a bright, relaxed environment where anyone can visit and choose flowers at their leisure.

“We particularly enjoy weddings and it’s lovely when a bride comes in and chooses her flowers!”

 

 

With more than 30 years in the floral industry, Shirley and Sarah have been quick to embrace new ideas and new technologies to boost the profile of the shop. Sarah is responsible for the website updates and managing the social media side of the business and reckons that their BT website has been great for attracting customers.

Sarah said: “We chose BT for our website after a chat with one of their sales reps here at the store. We liked the package (Web Manager) and some of the features like click-to-call, which really lets you see the benefit of having a website. And, of course, it was a really great price!

“We’ve certainly noticed the extra customers since the website went live last year. And I really like being able to call someone if I get stuck with anything like editing or uploading using the website content management system.”

Sarah is a relative newbie to managing a website and is hoping to expand the site into other areas such as online ordering in the future. And the quarterly call with a BT expert, that comes as part of the package, will certainly help.

 


 

Love is in the air!

With Valentine’s Day not far away, Shirley Munro Florist can expect a busy few days!

Shirley and Sarah share some Valentine’s facts…

  • Shirley needs an extra two drivers to handle deliveries on the 14th.
  • The shop is expecting to sell 1,200 red roses (400 more than last year – who said romance is dead?), as well as 400 pink and white roses.
  • A red rose bouquet is still the best seller – but mixed bouquets get more popular each year.
  • One romantic gent asked the shop to provide rose petals to cover the bed in his hotel suite.
  • Several customers requested that Shirley’s delivery driver sing a few lines from a chosen song!
